About UPSAC
We have been affiliated with the Students Union for over 30 years and have grown and exceed an annual membership of 100 divers. We run training programs starting at entry level for complete beginners through to nationally qualified Instructors.
With this wealth of experience and heritage we offer training with BSAC (the British Sub Aqua Club) using our own Instructors, most of who, actually began their diving career and qualified within this very club. As a thank you all the instructors give up their time for free to teach and as such we are able to offer hugely reduced training costs and pass these saving onto you, the students.
|
The Club Night - Tuesdays
We usually kick the evening off with training lectures in St Michael’s Building from 7pm then continuing on to the Eldon Arms where in addition to conducting the day to day running of the club, booking training sessions, and organising diving trips we get to know each other, talk diving, not talk diving, drinking and eating.
If your not doing any training lectures, don’t worry you can always find us in the Eldon on Tuesdays throughout the year from about 8pm.
|
Pool Training - Saturdays
Along with the theory training everything is put into practice in the pool before going to open water, We run these sessions every Saturday at St Edmunds School Swimming pool, you can book into your session the Tuesday before.
We do however ask you to be at the pool in good time. Please be at the pool by 11:45 if you need to get in the water by 12:00.

Woodruff - The Drinking Game
Woodruff is the club’s ongoing drinking game named after the old club boat, It’s not mandatory but helps liven up any social gathering, there are a few basic rules, So if you are carefully, Then I'll begin....
|
|
1 |
On even days of the month (ie 20th, 14th etc.) you drink with your left hand. |
|
2 |
On odd days of the month (ie 21st, 15th etc.) you drink with your right hand. |
|
3 |
On pub crawls you will be given a list of pubs with either port (left) or starboard (right) next to them you must use this hand to drink with. |
|

Calling a Woodruff on a person drinking non-alcoholic drinks is a woodruff. |
|
5 |
As is calling a false woodruff. |
