Who Is Holly McMahon?

Committee Position:
Club Secretary
Year Started Diving:
2001
Current Qualifications:
BSAC Sports diver
Number of Logged dives:
Not quite sure, but probably 100-200.
Best Dive Ever:
Probably the second dive i did in the Maldives (Halaveli island) at a site called Kuda Thila. Warmest water i have ever experienced with crystal clear water. The dive was filled with schooling fish everywhere, and my first lion fish ever!!! We then swam to the drop off of the reef, and there right in front of us were 6 circling grey reef sharks!! They were the biggest sharks we had seen yet. We sat there watching them for a while. They gradually came in closer and closer, even swimming into our bubbles. It was a shame this experience had to end!!
Most Educating Dive:

I don't have a most educating dive, i have a most educating dive trip. This was the second club trip to Plymouth, and every dive i did was with someone less qualified/as qualified as me. So most dives i led, and always had to be on the ball, even running through some skills for assesment. I learnt alot on this trip, through skill practices and gaining confidence in the water and in my own diving skills. Or it could my trip to the Seychelles this summer. It was my first time travelling that far by myself (an educating experience in itself), nut the narure of the expedition meant my buoyancy and general diving skills had to near perfect. With diving every day, twice a day my skills and confidence really grew. An educating experience all around.

Maddest Dive Ever:
My first ever night dive, done in the Maldives (Kuredu island) on the house reef. It was mad because i was scared out of my skin!!! The currents were massive, so it was like a drift dive along the reef wall. To try to minimise the effect of the current, we went along in single file. We saw loads of life still, including the resident Napolean Wrasse, a loan Humphead parrot fish, and a stone fish. The maddest part of the dive was coming up to the wreck (aaaaaahhhhh!!!!!). The currents were at their worst here- we swam round to be in the lee of the current, but in the process of getting there i ended up holding on to the front of the wreck, and like a flag was nearly swept round to the other side. MAD!!!!!!!! We had a great ending though- sitting round on a sand flat, turning off our tourches and watching the phophoesence. When we turned our tourches back on there was a flounder in the middle of our circle staring up at us, which made everone laugh!!!
Why I Want To Dive:
Diving is great!!!!! I love it because its so relaxing being underwater. Your in a totally different world, all your previous worries you have up there on land go away and you can just relax! Breathing underwater is the best- very wierd at first. The adrenaline rush you get is also great. Getting so close to the fish, and wildlife is probably the best part of it. I would live underwater if i could!!!!!
If I was a marine animal, what would I be?
An Octopus- they can breathe underwater, are extremely clever, have 8 legs, and are squishy and flexible- what more would u want!!!!!
