Who Is Laura Coombes?

Hi, my name is laura, i'm the social secretary.

My role is to organise anythingthats fun when we're not diving. So pub crawls, xmas party, AGM, paint balling, ice skating etc.

Any suggestions/requests let me know.

This is my 3rd year in the club, I joined in my 2nd year of uni whilst studying Architecture. I am still in my 2nd year studying Enterprise in Product Design at Portsmouth University.

I'd never dived before i joined the club, so they've taught me everything i know in and out of the water! I think that is as much as you need to know. x

Committee Position:
Social Secretary
Year Started Diving:
2005
Current Qualifications:
BSAC Ocean Diver
Number of Logged dives:
60
Best Dive Ever:
so many great dives, best would have to be in Lanzarote, yes warm water, sunshine and great visibility. But what really made it the best dive was as we came round the edge of the wreck we saw an atlantic ray, it was huge and absolutely amazing. Other grear dives include the James Egan Lane, Plymouthand Lanzarote where i saw Gordon the grouper, angel sharks, Great Barracuda, Squid, Pufferfish, Scorpion fish,Damsel fish and Cuttlefish.
Most Educating Dive:

an evening dive on the France Aimee, this was a particulary dark and low vis dive. My buddy was leading, we only had the one torchand as my buddy disappeared down side of the wreck we became seperated. As i was doing my seperation procedure i stumbled upon another dive pair, who coincidently found it rather funny that my buddy had misplaced me. Later i discovered this was because my buddy was sat the other side of the 2nd dive pair. The dive pair could see both of us, but the vis was so bad i had no idea my buddy was so close and vica versa. Once reunited with my buddy we carried on. lesson learnt is always take a torch (that works) and a dsmb.

Maddest Dive Ever:
maddest dive, well probably mine, Becca and John's dive in horsea. We all agreed to follow Becca as the vis was the kind where you struggle to see your hand in front of your face, within two minutes we'd lost Becca. So me and John surfaced and discovered Becca was right next to us the whole time. We descended again this time in a line holding hands. we completed our dive in a square as planned and due to Becca's amazing navigation surfaced next to exit ladder. Or mine and alex's fast drift dive on Bembridge ledges. Low vis, speedy current, lots of seaweed and rocks that appeared from no where. To top that dive it was rainging and slightly choppy as we exited onto Rib, and in the exiting process my weightbelt was lost to the ocean.
Why I Want To Dive:
why not? Seriously because its soooo much fun, relaxing, exciting, you get to see and experience amazing sights that most people will never know and no two dives are ever the same!
If I was a marine animal, what would I be?
well would have to be a ray (a big one though) because they just gracefully glide through the water, as if they're flying.
