Hi all,
As you were aware 9 of us went to Nemo33 on Saturday.
I picked Lou up at 04:30 at we had some faffing to do picking various people up – Luke and His crowd left Portsmouth at 05:30.
We both arrived at the Euro Tunnel at about 07:30 and headed to the terminal for Burger King – there is nothing like a Wopper for breakfast. At 08:15 we headed for our train and by 08:45 we were on our way through the tunnel. I think Lou was expecting a tunnel like you have in an aquarium and was quite disappointed not to be able to see any fish.
With a quickish run through France and Belgium, we arrived at Nemo at 12:15 (we needed to be there for 13:00 to Check in) and once we had a nice drink and sorted the paperwork out it was time to go diving.
We had very little time for freediving this time round – I managed 2 x 10m dives but Ollie had some fin faff so by the time he got in – they were calling us our to go diving.
The water was a lovely 33deg C and Noe and I headed for the pit – as did the rest of us – one other couple did pop down for a minute but for the rest of the time it was just the Pompey lot.
With a quick group photo in one of the air spaces and some more swimming around our 40mins were up and it was time to surface.
With logbooks stamped we jumped back in the cars and headed back to Calais for some dinner and wine shopping. I got to the tunnel to be directed straight towards a queue for the trains were there seemed to be two lines of traffic – one that was being searched and another that wasn’t, so I joined the ‘no search’ line and quickly found myself at the front of the queue for the next train.
With a smooth run round the M25 and down the A3 we were back in Portsmouth for 21:30 and after a quick pint down the Eldon I headed for bed.
Costings
- Tunnel - £11.80
- Nemo - £16.00 including air and kit hire
- Fuel - £18:50
- = £46.30 each
So with the SETT tank costing £35 each + air fill + kit hire – there isn’t much difference in price and the difference that there is you can claw back in buying enough cheap wine.. so if you haven’t done it yet – go for it, you never know you might just have some fun.
Much Love
Ryan
